About Us
Hi, I’m Chris Alcott, a dad from St. Louis with two amazing daughters who have spent years lovingly tolerating (and occasionally laughing at) my dad jokes. St. Louis is home, but the true origin of St. Louis Groan began in Orlando, Florida back in 2022.
On a family vacation, another dad from my daughters’ school just happened to be at the same resort. After a full day of rides and snacks, our families teamed up for “one last ride” — the most popular ride in the park. The moms headed back early, leaving the dads and daughters to brave a line that stretched well over an hour.
To pass the time, we did what any dads would do: we unleashed an endless stream of groan-worthy dad jokes.
Our daughters were exhausted… and trapped. With nowhere to escape, they endured pun after pun until we finally made it to the ride, closed the park down, and ended the night with dinner outside the gates ... where the jokes absolutely continued. Classics like:
- “My phone is stuck in airplane mode… it keeps calling me Shirley.”
- “Why don’t seagulls fly over the bay? Because then they’d be bagels.”
That magical, pun-filled day sparked something. I started saving jokes in my phone. Then we kept texting them to each other. Eventually I compiled over 500 of the worst (some would say the best?) dad jokes from that thread alone.
In St. Louis, it’s a tradition for kids to tell a joke when trick-or-treating, so we began sharing our growing list with other dads. This turned into a full-blown “dad joke network,” and today our humble joke database has grown to over 1,000 groaners, thanks to dads everywhere.
With our kids now off to college, my wife and I decided to share our gift with the world — through high-quality tees featuring the lowest-quality jokes. Thus, St. Louis Groan was born.
A tip of the hat to all the dads who have contributed along the way. And if you have a groaner that deserves a spot on a shirt, send it our way. If it’s new to us and makes us groan-laugh, we’ll print it and send you the 1st shirt for free.
Stay tuned… our first Dad Joke Book is coming soon.
Welcome to the Groan family.
